Gratitude Ceremony 2012

As we know, the Buddha taught that even though we carry our parents on our back to go to different places for a long time, we could not repay their care and love for us. Thus the purpose of having the gratitude ceremony is to give an opportunity for the Dhamma Sunday School children to express their gratitude towards the love and care of their parents and also show the appreciation toward  the teachings and guidance of the teacher.

The program start at 9.00am, arrival of parent, students and relatives. At 9.15am, we start our morning service: Buddha Puja.

 

At 9.40am, Sayadaw U Pannananda lead us in taking precepts, observation 5 precepts, contemplation of the Triple Gems. After that, we start our gratitude ceremony around 9.50am, by offering robe to our spiritual advisor Sayadaw U Pannananda.

 

Beside expressing our thankfulness to Sayadaw for his kindness and Dhamma guidance,  we also seek forgiveness from Sayadaw for any wrong deed we have done intentionally or unintentionally. Then we have a group photo with Sayadaw.

 

Around 10.30, our MC teacher Malini start to explain the meaning of gratitude to all the students. She has made use of a bow of rice and a wrapped present to illustrate the important of showing our gratitude and appreciation to our parents. Teacher Ooi has prepared Carnation flowers for student to offer to their parents and also teachers.

We invite all the parents to be seated, their children knees down and hold the flower. Then teacher Malini start to recite the speech of forgiveness and ask the children to follow the reciting, at the end of speech, offer the beautiful flower to their parent to express their gratitude, such a touching scene.

 

 

We also want to thank Aunty Annie who has always prepared good and delicious lunch for student and teacher by handing her a little present. Sadhu ! Sadhu ! Sadhu ! to her.

Next, each class of students line up in front of teacher to give flower to express their thankfulness to the teacher. Lastly we invite chairman of MBMC to give his thank you speech. Teacher Chuah, teacher Eng Lee, student representative, parents and teacher Thum to share and give their testimonials before the program is ended.

Before we dismiss the students, we chant the metta chanting together and transfer the merits to all beings. May they be well and happy ! Sadhu! x 3.

Bujang Valley Trip 2012

MBMC Dhamma School had organized a trip 2 weeks ago to bring students, together with parents to visit Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum. It is located at Merbok, Kedah. We departed at 9.00am 24.04.2012 Sunday with total about 40 people including Sayadaw.

It was a sunny day. We took about 1.5 hours to arrive the destination due to turning to the wrong exit from Utara-Selatan Highway. We arrived there around 10.50am.

The musuem is fully air-conditioning, just lack of experience tour guide to explain and lead us for a mini tour. The Bujang Valley is a having an area of approximately 224 square km. It is situated in north-west Malaysia between Gunung Jerai in the north and the Muda River in the south, it is the richest archaeological area in Malaysia.

Most of the archaeological finds are believed dated from 4th century. Finding display in the musuem include relics, inscribed stone, caskets and tablets, metal tools and ornaments, ceramics, pottery, inscriptions, Buddha Statues and Hindu icons. This has proved that Bujang Valley is the earliest civilization in South-East Asia.

After the sightseeing, we had our lunch at Bujang Valley. We prepared food dana to Sayadaw. Some of the devotees prepared ang paw to offer to Sayadaw.

This area consists of ruins that have been carbon dated to the 4th century. More than fifty ancient temples, called candi, have also been unearthed. The most impressive and well-preserved of these is located in Pengkalan Bujang.

At last, we took a group photo together with Sayadaw, students and parents before end the trip.

Finally, we reached MBMC about 3pm. Wish all of the participants had enjoyed the trip !

Dhamma Hunt 2012

MBMC Dhamma School has organized a special activity called Dhamma Hunt for students to learn dhamma in an interactive and full of fun way. This event was leaded by Teacher Malini.

Objectives of the Treasure Hunt

• To learn Dhamma in an interactive way.
• To work as a TEAM all students from all levels, teachers and parents.
• To assess the Sunday School students knowledge of the Dhamma.
• To practice loving kindness by being gentle, humble, respectful and
• obedient during the interaction with the members of Sangha, kitchen
• helpers and devotees.To have FUN learning Dhamma.

Basically we divided students into 3 groups: Metta, Karuna and Mudita. Each group has about 9-1o students. They were required to answer and complete first question before can proceed to the next question. At the end, the group who has achieved highest score in answering 5 questions in total, will be the winner.

First question requested student to have a direct interaction with our new Sayadaw U Pannananda. Students was required to go to 1st floor to pay respect to Sayadaw and gather the required information.

Second question requested student to find the location that keep the treasure of Dhamma, then interview Brother Keat Hoe (Librarian) and present the appreciaton card to him.

Third question is about Buddha, we requested student to find the "Shout of Victory" at the tree where Buddha attained enlightenment.

The fouth question required student to act 2 precepts silently to another groups for guessing. If the other party successfully answered the acting, both group will be given 5 points or else will be deducted 5 points.

Karuna Group was acting the 6th precept: Abstain from eating at the wrong time

The last question was about Triple Gems. Students were required to find 3 different symbols to represent Triple Gems. They found Buddha poster, Buddha image to represent Buddha; Dhamma books to represent Dhamma; robes and alms bowl to represent Sangha.

Finally Mudita group was the winner of the event. Teacher Thum was invited to give the presents to the winning group.
